Who we are and what these terms cover
This website is operated by Squirrel Forensics Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 13806513. Registered office: 86-90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE. Contact info@sqfr.uk.
These terms cover use of this website and enquiries made through it. A quotation, demonstration, software evaluation or purchase may have separate written terms supplied before you agree. These website terms do not retrospectively change an existing contract or remove rights given by law.
An enquiry is not an order
The planned Acorn portable bundle is not currently available to buy through this site. We are not taking deposits for it. A contact form, demonstration request or launch-update request does not place an order, reserve stock or commit you to a purchase.
The launch offer remains planned. Any applicable products, eligibility, dates and price basis will be set out before it can be redeemed. A request for updates does not itself create a right to a discount.
Before accepting a future order we will set out the product or service, specification, price, VAT and other charges, delivery arrangements, payment terms, licence, support, cancellation rights and any relevant limits. A contract is formed only at the acceptance stage stated in the terms supplied with that order. We will not substitute a materially different specification or increase an agreed price without the customer's agreement.
Businesses, public bodies and educational institutions should request a written quotation for their requirements. Consumer rights apply where you buy mainly outside your trade, business or profession. Existing customers can contact us about their original order; its agreed terms and statutory rights remain relevant.
Specifications, examples and demonstrations
Read product descriptions with the stated build, inputs and workflow. Development plans and release targets are not promises that an unfinished feature is available today. A screenshot shows a particular interface or result; it is not proof that every device or file type is supported.
Illustrative scenarios, diagrams and generated images are identified as examples. They are not customer case results, endorsements or deployment approvals. For an evaluation, agree a representative input, the questions to answer and the expected outputs.
We take reasonable care with website information and correct errors when found. Product descriptions and other information that becomes legally binding are not excluded merely because they appear on this website.
Remote Windows sessions, cloud services and third-party forensic products need their own suitable infrastructure, permissions and licences. Naming or illustrating a tool does not mean it is included with The Acorn or endorsed by its publisher. Local evidence analysis runs on the workstation; remote sessions, cloud collection and online lookups need network access.
Lawful use and software licences
Use our site, demonstrations and software only where you have authority. Do not attempt unauthorised access, interfere with the site, submit malicious material or use an enquiry form to transfer evidence. Agree a suitable transfer process with us if material is needed for support or a separate service.
SQFR and its licensors retain their respective intellectual-property rights. You may read, link to and retain reasonable extracts of public website information for evaluation or internal reference, with attribution. Further reuse needs permission unless law or the relevant licence permits it.
Third-party and open-source software keeps its own licence. Nothing in these terms overrides rights granted by an open-source licence. The free-tools directory links to independent projects; it is not a claim that all listed tools are included, supported or validated in every Acorn build.
Investigators remain responsible for authority, scope, evidence handling, verification and interpretation. A software result is not a guarantee of admissibility, attribution or complete recovery. Any export, import or restricted-use requirements must be addressed for the proposed supply and destination.
Consumer cancellation and faulty products
Nothing here removes a consumer's statutory rights. Goods must meet the legal requirements for quality, fitness and description; digital content and services have their own statutory protections. A commercial warranty is additional to those rights, not a replacement.
For most distance purchases of goods, a consumer may notify cancellation within 14 days after receiving the goods, then has a further 14 days to return them. Reasonable inspection is allowed. Original packaging or an RMA number is not a condition of exercising a statutory right. Any permitted deduction must reflect handling beyond what is needed to establish the goods' nature, characteristics and functioning, not an automatic restocking charge.
For services and digital content, the cancellation period and rules depend on the supply. Beginning a digital download does not by itself remove the right to cancel: the legally required prior express consent, acknowledgement and confirmation must be obtained. A request to start a service during its cancellation period is also subject to the applicable rules.
Any lawful exception, such as genuinely made-to-specification goods, must be explained before purchase. We will provide the relevant cancellation information and form with consumer ordering terms. See our returns and cancellation information and GOV.UK guidance on refunds.
Responsibility and availability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where that would be unlawful, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Consumer statutory rights are preserved. Any business-contract liability provisions must be set out in the relevant agreement and remain subject to applicable law.
We cannot promise uninterrupted website availability. Keep your own copies of important correspondence and agreed documents. External websites and independently supplied tools have their own terms; we do not control them. This does not remove any responsibility we have for goods, digital content or services that we supply.
Our privacy and cookies notice explains how website and enquiry information is handled.
Questions, complaints and applicable law
Email info@sqfr.uk with the issue, relevant reference and preferred resolution. Do not include payment-card details or case evidence. We will review the issue and explain the next step. These terms do not require compulsory arbitration or prevent access to a court or regulator.
These website terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. A consumer keeps any mandatory protections and court rights available in their country of residence, including the right to bring proceedings in Scotland or Northern Ireland where applicable. Separate business contracts may specify an agreed jurisdiction.
We may update the website terms for future use. The date at the top identifies the version; changes do not alter an existing contract without a valid agreement or legal basis.
